Tea Baseball Association announces competitive tryouts for 2027 season

The Tea Baseball Association (TBA) has announced tryouts for its 2027 competitive baseball teams, with students entering third through sixth grade invited to compete for roster spots.

Tryouts will be held on Monday, Aug. 3, at the Tea Athletic Complex. Player check-in will take place from 9:30 to 10 a.m., with tryouts running from 10 a.m. to noon.

The competitive program is open to Tea Area School District students. Teams will compete in weekend tournaments from May through July, in addition to league games held during the week. Each team will determine which tournaments it will participate in, and families should be aware that additional tournament registration fees will apply. Team selections are expected to be announced by mid-August.

The cost to participate in tryouts is $25. Participants may pay in advance through Venmo using @TeaBaseballAssociation and including “TRYOUT” in the payment description. Cash or checks payable to the Tea Baseball Association will also be accepted on the day of tryouts.

Players should arrive dressed in baseball attire and bring their own glove, bat, helmet, any position-specific equipment, and a water bottle. Water will be available for refills.

During the tryout, each player will be assigned a bib number and evaluated alongside other students in their grade level. Athletes will participate in fielding, catching and hitting drills at various stations. A blind-scoring system will be used to evaluate each player’s performance in individual skill activities.

Association officials noted that beginning in 2025, Class A baseball transitioned from birth-year teams to grade-level teams. The change allows players to try out and compete alongside classmates as they advance through the program each year. While some players may have the opportunity to play up an age group, players are not permitted to play down.

Families whose athletes are not selected for a competitive team—or who choose not to accept an offer—will still have the opportunity to participate in Tea’s recreational baseball league. Registration for recreational teams will open in early 2027.
