Tea Legion defeat Post 1, fall to Dell Rapids Post 65

On Wednesday, June 21 the Tea Legion baseball team, the Tea TinCaps, took on Post 1 Vermillion. The TinCaps had no trouble offensively, winning 12-1.

Tea fired up the offense in the first inning as Sam Werdel singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

Tea then scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth, and four more in the seventh. The big seventh inning was driven by singles by Andrew Opland, Kellen Sattler, and Carter Turek and a sacrifice fly by Ethan Vis.

Werdel led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the TinCaps. He surrendered one run on three hits over six innings, striking out five. Nate Christensen also pitched one inning, recording one strike-out.

The TinCaps tallied 15 hits in the game. Halbur, Turek, Dedula, Werdel, and Opland each collected two hits to lead Tea.

On Monday, June 26 the TinCaps watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 16-0 loss to Dell Rapids Phils (Post 65).

Tea struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Dell Rapids.

Vis was on the mound for Tea. He allowed one hit and five runs over one inning, striking out one. Teagan Dedula and Mason Schramm entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.

Schramm, Carter Turek, and Halbur each collected one hit to lead Tea.

The TinCaps are scheduled to host Dakota Valley Legion Post 319 on Friday, June 30 in a 6 p.m. match-up. The team will travel to West Central on July 5 and will be at Elk Point on July 7.
