On Monday, May 26th, the Tea community will come together to honor and remember the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country. The Memorial Day program will commence at 9:30 a.m. at the Tea Legion Post 266, followed by a solemn cemetery ceremony.
The morning’s events will begin at the Legion, where attendees will gather to pay tribute to U.S. military personnel who have died in service to the nation. Guest Speaker is Candy Martin.
Candy was born and raised in South Dakota. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps in 1975 and retired from the U.S. Army 38 years later as a Chief Warrant Officer Five. Candy served in a variety of positions and deployed in support of Iraqi Freedom from August 2005 to July 2006.
She has been awarded multiple military awards, to include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star. Candy proudly served in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps, was inducted into the Quartermaster Hall of Fame in 2017, and received the prestigious Quartermaster Ancient Order of St. Martin in 2022.
Candy follows her passion of serving Veterans and Gold Star Families. She is married to Sergeant Major (Retired) Ed Martin, and they raised four children. Tom, a 2005 graduate of the United States Military Academy, was killed in action while serving in Iraq on October 14, 2007. They have three adult daughters and four grandchildren. Candy and Ed make their home in San Antonio, Texas, enjoying the balance of family, volunteering, traveling, and retirement.
Following the program at the Legion, participants will proceed to the local cemetery for a continuation of the ceremony.
Following the cemetery ceremony, a social hour will take place back at the Tea Legion Post 266 with snacks provided by the Legion Auxiliary.
