Thirty-two Titan youth wrestlers qualify for State




The Tea youth wrestling team is celebrating after an outstanding performance at the Region AAU wrestling tournament in Yankton on Saturday, March 11th. A total of 70 Tea wrestlers participated in the tournament, with an impressive 51 of them placing in the top six.

The Titans had even more to cheer about as 32 of their wrestlers qualified for the SDWCA State Youth Wrestling Tournament, which will be held at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen this weekend, March 24, 25 and 26th.

The top three wrestlers from each weight class in all age divisions at Regions advanced to the State tournament except the Midget division where the top four advanced.

The Region Tournament saw a total of 645 wrestlers from 22 different clubs competing in various age divisions.

The picture above shows the Titan wrestlers who qualified for the state tournament, qualifiers not pictured include Dax Larson, Grady Larson, Vida Smith and Gabriel Bastemeyer.

The following is a the list of all thirty-two wrestlers that fought their way into the State tournament, with their division, weight, and placing at Regions:

Tots division: Logan Reemtsma - 37 - 3rd; Wyatt Neugebauer - 37 - 1st; Rush Wilson - 40 - 2nd; Cash McCord - 43 - 3rd; Carson Gassman - 46 - 2nd; Ryker Watkins - 53 - 3rd; Cameron Watkins - 57 - 3rd

Schoolboy division: Kade Eimers - 80 - 1st; Henry Fortin - 95 -2nd; Grady Larson - 100 - 3rd; Slater Wilson - 100 - 2nd; Trevin Audiss - 115 - 3rd; Beau Werdel - 130 - 3rd

Cadets division: Tyler Woodring - 120 - 1st; Gabriel Bastemeyer - 145 - 2nd; Jeremiah Wilgers - 182 - 1st

Girls division: Mya Nelson - 50 - 2nd; Saorise Vuong - 50 - 1st; Halle Levene - 63 - 3rd; Vada Smith - 75 - 3rd; Ella Haines - 73 - 1st; Aliyah Steveson - 82 - 1st

There were also several other Tea wrestlers who didn’t qualify for State but managed to make the podium at Regions, placing in the top six. Those wrestlers are as follows:

Weigh-ins begin at 12 noon on Friday, March 24 for the State Tournament with doors opening at 3 p.m. for Cadets, juniors, and high school girls wrestlers. Wrestling is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
