Titan boys and girls earn shout-out wins in Class AA debut

Tea Area dominated the soccer field on Saturday, Apr. 17 securing two decisive shutout victories against Mitchell in the season opener. The Titan girls emerged victorious with a 4-0 win and the Titan boys secured a 5-0 victory showcasing their strength in their Class AA debut. 

In the girls’ contest, the match remained scoreless for the first 70 minutes until Tea Area’s offense ignited. Chloe Wilson broke the deadlock with a long-range goal, setting the stage for the reigning Class A champions to pull ahead. 

Cate Giles capitalized on two penalty kicks, while Alana Otten and Heidi Hofer each added goals in the final minutes. 

The Titans’ defense was impenetrable during this period, preventing Mitchell from taking any shots on goal.

The boys’ game saw Tea Area take an early lead, with Hudson Hadrick converting a penalty kick in the ninth minute. Just seconds later, Juv Banza scored his first goal, doubling the lead. The Titans dominated the first half, ending with a 4-0 advantage. Banza scored again in the second half off a corner kick pass from Ethan DeGeest. Banza completed a hat trick with his third goal in the final minutes, securing the Titans’ 5-0 victory. 

Also scoring goals for the Titans were Evan Mitchell and Carson Hall who scored on a corner kick with five minutes left in the half. Daylen McKnelly recorded two assists in the game. 

Both the Titan boys and girls were scheduled to travel to Brookings on Aug. 20. The teams will travel to Watertown on Aug. 27 before hosting Yankton on Aug. 29. The girls’ will compete at 4 p.m. and the boys’ are set to kick-off at 6 p.m.
