Titan boys defeat Sturgis, fall to Spearfish
The Tea Area Titan boys soccer team split a pair of games over the weekend, earning a 3-0 shutout victory over Sturgis on Saturday while falling to Spearfish, 2-1, on Friday.
Tea Area opened the weekend Friday, Aug. 14, against Spearfish. The Titans took a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but Spearfish rallied with two goals to claim the 2-1 victory. The first half remained scoreless, with Tea Area goalkeeper Brax Johnson making two key saves during a five-minute stretch when Spearfish attempted to find the back of the net.
Tea Area broke through at the start of the second half when John McGuckin converted a penalty kick to put the Titans ahead 1-0. Spearfish answered with two second-half goals, however, to take the win.
The Titans bounced back Saturday morning, Aug. 15, against Sturgis. Tea Area took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Hudson Hadrick converted a penalty kick. The Titans added two more goals in the second half to secure the shutout. Nathan Hall and Dawood Toto each found the back of the net as Tea Area pulled away for the 3-0 victory.
Tea Area will return to action Thursday, Aug. 20, when the Titans host Brookings at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Harrisburg for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday, Aug. 22, before heading to Yankton on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
