Titan boys defeat Tri-Valley, SFC

The Tea Area High School baseball team clinched a stunning 16-5 victory over Tri-Valley in a thrilling game played on Saturday, Apr. 8. The Titans made a late surge in the game to snatch the win away from Tri-Valley in a game that had been tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth.

The Titans’ Clayton Schwebach drove in five runs and went 3-for-4 at the plate, with one home run, one single, and one double. Schwebach’s crucial single in the bottom of the fourth on a 0-1 count scored two runs to put Tea Area in the lead, a position they never relinquished.

Tri-Valley started the game strongly, scoring one run in the first inning due to an error. However, the Titans came roaring back with two home runs, one by Schwebach in the opening inning and another by Matt Halbur in the fifth.

Tea Area’s Boston Willemssen pitched for three innings, allowing five runs and three hits while striking out four. Teagan Dedula also saw action on the mound, allowing one hit and zero runs while recording two strike-outs. The Titans collected 12 hits in the game, with Schwebach, Nathan Babb, Halbur, and Ethan Vis each racking up multiple hits. Also recording a hit for the Titans was Aedan Wahl, Brayden Jensen, and Sam Werdel.

On Monday, Apr. 10 the Titans defeated Sioux Falls Christian 6-2. The Titans captured the lead in the second inning, with an error scoring one run. They took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning, with Logan Boom scoring both Jensen and Vis with a single on a 1-0 count.

Schwebach was the winning pitcher for the Titans on the mound, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out eight over five innings. Boom threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Tea Area managed seven hits, with Boom, Dedula, Vis, Jensen, Mason Schramm, Schwebach, and Babb each managing one hit. The team did not commit a single error in the field, with Willemssen having the most chances in the field with eight.

The Titans faced off against Madison on Tuesday, Apr. 11 and won 2-0. Complete results will be in next week’s paper. Tea Area will take on Garretson on Friday, Apr. 11 and Sioux Falls Lincoln on Monday, Apr. 17. On Wednesday, Apr. 19 the team will be in Lennox.
