Titan boys earn thrilling overtime win over Watertown

On Tuesday, Jan. 16 the Tea Area High School boys’ basketball team traveled to Watertown and earned a 63-62 overtime win. 

“This was a gutty, impressive wins for our boys. We have had a long layoff with very few practices and that showed at times in this game, but we proved our toughness and played with high energy,” said Titan head coach Drew Weber. “Watertown is a very good team and it’s a difficult place to play, but we executed down the stretch better than we have all season. I’m really proud of the guys and how they worked in this win.”

For the Titans, Sam Almas led the way with 24 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal. Jessen Wiebenga scored 11 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had three assists and two steals. 

Grif Wiebenga finished with eight points and Marshall Smythe provided seven points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Brenner Konrad had six points, three rebounds, and one steal. Boston Willemssen had four points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal, and Garrett Wiebenga had three points, two rebounds, and one assist. 

The Titans shot nearly 44 percent in the game. They outscored Watertown 19-12 in the third. 

On Thursday, Jan. 18 the Titan boys were scheduled to travel to Aberdeen Central. On Tuesday, Jan. 23 the Titans will take on Sioux Falls Christian at the Sanford Pentagon in an 8 p.m. match-up. 

On Saturday, Jan. 27 the Titans will compete in the Dak XII/NEC Boys Clash at Madison.
