Titan boys earn wins over Dells, Brookings

On Friday, Dec. 15 the Tea Area High School boys’ basketball team traveled to Dell Rapids and used an 18-7 fourth quarter advantage to take the 56-49 victory.

“Talk about a gritty performance from our boys. We are downright ugly offensively in the first half, but we found a way to keep it close,” said Titan head coach Drew Weber. “The defensive stops that we got at the end of the second quarter when things weren’t going well offensively is what will give us a chance to have a state tournament-type season. The boys showed that they don’t need to see the ball go into the hole in order to still compete.”

For the Titans, Sam Almas led all scorers with 28 points, hitting four three-pointers and going four of five from the foul line. He also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

“The second half, Sam really got going and gave us the offensive boost that we needed,” said Weber. “The guys found a way to keep getting him the ball in good spots and we were able to do just enough to get out of there with a win. A great springboard game for the rest of the season.”

Also scoring in double figures was Marshall Smythe who finished with ten points. He also had four rebounds, led the team in assists with six and had three steals. Jessen Wiebenga had six points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Boston Willemssen had five points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Brenner Konrad finished with four points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Keeton Newborg had three points.

Following their win over Dell Rapids, the Titans hosted Brookings on Tuesday, Dec. 19 and won 56-43. They take on SF O’Gorman on Thursday, Dec. 28 and Marshall, MN at Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday, Dec. 29.
