Titan boys fall to top seeded SFC

The Tea Area High School boys’ basketball team took on top ranked Sioux Falls Christian at the Pentagon on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

The Titans trailed 37-28 at the half and attempted a comeback in the second half but ultimately fell, 66-59.

“It’s always disappointing when you lose, but the boys proved tonight that they can play with anyone in the state. SFC is the top-ranked team for a reason and they played a pretty solid game all around, but we were able to hang in and have a chance at the end,” said Titan head coach Drew Weber. “I thought our half-court defense was as good as it’s been all year and we did some things offensively that proves that we are moving in the right direction there. We have a really difficult and busy stretch coming up, but if we play as well as we did in this game, we will find a lot of success.”

For the Titans, Jessen Wiebenga and Sam Almas were both in double figures. Wiebenga finished with 15 points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals. Almas had 14 points, two rebounds, one assist and three steals.

Grif Wiebenga had nine points, five rebounds, and two assists. Marshall Smythe added seven points, three rebounds, one assist and two steals. Garrett Wiebenga had five points and five rebounds. Boston Willemssen had four points, eight rebounds and Keeton Newborg provided three points, one rebound and two assists. Brenner Konrad also had two points and two rebounds in the game.

The Titans were scheduled to travel to Aberdeen Central on Thursday, Jan. 25.

The Titans will compete in the Dak XII /NEC Clash on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Madison. Tea Area will take on Clark/Willow Lake at 11 a.m.

On Tuesday, Jan. 30 the Titans will travel to Iowa to take on Western Christian, IA. They will be at home again on Thursday, Feb. 1 when they host West Central.
