Titan boys ride four-game winning streak
The Tea Area High School boys’ soccer team picked up four consecutive wins, defeating Sioux Falls Jefferson, Brookings, Huron and Mitchell to improve to 5-6-3 on the season.
The Titans opened last week on Tuesday, Sept. 22, with a 2-0 victory over Sioux Falls Jefferson.
Conner Case put Tea Area on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute of the first half. Reed Cerny added the second goal in the 18th minute of the second half as the Titans secured the shutout victory.
Tea Area returned to action Thursday, Sept. 24, and posted another shutout, defeating Brookings 3-0.
Brayden Carroll scored the opening goal in the 36th minute of the first half off a corner kick. Hudson Hadrick added a goal in the 22nd minute of the second half, and Nathan Hall completed the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute of the second half.
The Titans closed out last week on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a 2-0 win over Huron on a windy and rainy day.
Hall scored both goals for Tea Area. His first came late in the first half, with 53 seconds remaining, off a corner kick from Daylen McKnelly. Hall added his second goal with 15:40 remaining in the second half.
Tea Area controlled much of the possession and created multiple scoring opportunities, including several shots on goal and corner kicks.
The match included two yellow cards. McKnelly received a yellow card for dissent following a free kick, while a Huron defender was booked for a tactical foul near the penalty area.
Tea Area hosted Mitchell on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in its final regular-season match. The Titans finished the regular season with a 8-1 win against the Kernals, giving them a four-game win streak and improving to 5-6-3.
The postseason begins Oct. 6, with the first round of playoffs. Quarterfinals are scheduled for Oct. 10, followed by semifinals Oct. 13 and the State Championship on Oct. 17.
