The Tea Area High School boys’ soccer team traveled to Yankton in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Aug. 25, with Tea Area boys earning a hard-fought 2-2 draw.

The Titan boys came from behind late to earn the draw against the Bucks.

Yankton struck first to give the Bucks a 1-0 lead. Tea Area answered later in the first half when freshman Reed Cerny played a long ball forward to senior forward Dawood Toto. Toto got behind the Yankton defense and was able to poke the ball over the charging goalkeeper  and into the net. Cerny was credited with the assist, tying the game at 1-1.

The Titans continued to battle throughout the second half as both teams traded scoring opportunities. Yankton eventually regained the lead, making it a 2-1 game with just over a dozen minutes remaining.

Tea Area refused to go quietly, however, continuing to pressure the Yankton defense in the closing minutes.

The persistence paid off.

The Titans’ Brayden Carroll scored the equalizer with a well placed free kick from Hudson Hadrick to pull even at 2-2. Tea Area held on through the final minutes, with the match ending in a physical 2-2 draw.

Tea Area was in action again on Tuesday, Sept. 1 hosting Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Watch next week’s Tea Weekly for complete coverage. They travel to Aberdeen Central on Saturday, Sept. 5 for a 1 p.m. game.
