The Titans wrapped up their regular season last week, falling to Sioux Falls Washington 66-58 on Feb. 24 and to Marshall, 53-51 on Thursday, Feb. 26.
“It’s been a very disappointing last few games to say the least. We are competing against the best teams in our state and regardless of the opponent’s record, everyone has a lot of talent and can beat anyone in any game,” said Titan head coach Drew Weber. “It’s been a hectic few weeks around AA and we have been one of the teams that has been hurt by it. We have lost a lot of the fire and competitiveness that we had and it’s rearing its head at a bad time. We as a coaching staff have to do a better job of getting the most out of the guys and success will follow.”
Against Sioux Falls Washington, the lead changed seven times with the Titans leading by five at one point in the opening quarter.
Tea Area had three athletes in double figures with Blake Lundin scoring 17 points in the game. He also had eight rebounds, one assist and two steals. Gavin Shawd finished with 15 points. He also had two rebounds, and a team-high five assists on the night. Grifin Wiebenga finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Lane Sieber scored seven points for the Titans and pulled down three rebounds and had one steal. Mitch Grant finished with six points, five rebounds, and two assists.
In their game against Marshall, both Shawd and Wiebenga were in double figures. Wiebenga finished with 16 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Shawd scored 15 points, grabbed three rebounds and one had steal.
Grant finished with nine points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Lundin scored seven points, had eight rebounds and one assist. Both Brenner Konrad and Kayden Williamson had two points. Williams also grabbed four rebounds and had three assists.
Tea Area now enters the postseason where they enter as the ninth seed with a 12-8 record. They are slated to take on eighth seed Spearfish on Saturday, Mar. 7 in Spearfish in the SoDak 16 match-up. The winner will punch their ticket to the State AA Tournament.
