Titan girls defeat Watertown

On Tuesday, Apr. 22 the Tea Area High School softball team took on Watertown and using a 5-2 eighth inning advantage, the Titans defeated Watertown, 20-17. 

Kalli Boom helped the Titans get the win, collecting three hits in six at bats. She hit a home run to centerfield in the third inning, tripled in the eighth inning, and doubled in the seventh. 

Tea Area and Watertown were tied at 1-all after the opening inning. The Titans went up 3-1 in the top of third, only to have Watertown answer back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. 

Tea Area scored one run in the top of fourth and one in the top of the fifth but trailed, 5-10 as Watertown scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the bottom of the fifth.

Tea Area had a big sixth inning where they scored eight runs. Watertown answered back with five runs in the inning to maintain the lead, 15-13. Tea Area tied it up at 5-all in the seventh with two runs coming across the plate and the big five-run eighth inning gave them the win. 

In the eighth, several Titans tripled with Allie Wallum, Boom, Abby Boom and Preslie Benning each recording a triple. 

Ahryana Drake earned the win for the Titans on the mound. She allowed four hits and one run over two and one-third innings, walking one. Kaylyn Hall began on the mound for the Titans. She allowed 20 hits and 15 runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one. 

The Titans collected 19 hits in the game. A. Boom went four of six at the plate to lead the Titans. Both K. Boom and Preslie Benning had three hits. Recording two hits were Piper Benning, Paige Sabers and Wallum. Getting one hit was Hall, Ava Opland, and Evelyn Trottier. 

On Friday, Apr. 25 the Tea Area High School softball team took on Brookings and earned another win, defeating the Bobcats 12-9. 

Tea Area jumped ahead early, leading 5-0 after two innings of play. Brookings got on the board in the top of the fourth with one run but the Titans put four on the scoreboard to take the 9-1 lead. Brookings scored four runs in the fifth and another four in the sixth but a run in the fifth for Tea Area and two more in the sixth, gave the Titans a 12-9 victory. 

A. Boom collected three hits in five at bats. She singled in the second, singled in the first and singled in the fourth. 

Hall earned the win for the Titans on the mound. The starting pitcher gave up nine hits and eight runs over five and one-third innings. She struck out four and walked none. Drake collected the save for Tea Area, recording one strike-out and allowing two hits. 

The Titans accumulated 15 hits in the game. Both A. Boom and Hall had three hits. K. Boom, Preslie Benning, and Wallum had two hits each. Also recording a hit were Poland, Sabers, and Anna Samson.
