Titan girls fall in overtime to SFC

On Tuesday, Jan. 23 the Tea Area High School girls’ basketball team took on Sioux Falls Christian at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls. 

The Titans jumped out to an early 20-12 lead after the first quarter of play but the Chargers managed to tie things up in regulation, sending the game into overtime. It took double overtime, but the Chargers managed to get the 82-73 victory, giving the Titans only their second loss of the season.

For the Titans, Katie Vasecka recorded a double-double, scoring 32 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. She also had one assist and three steals. Mara Grant also had a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. She had two assists and one steal. 

Ellie Clayberg finished with ten points, eight rebounds, one assist and two steals. Miah Weber had eight points, two assists and two steals. Haidyn West finished with five points, one rebound, and three assists. 

Anna Binde had four points, two assists and one steal. Reese Hammerquist grabbed four rebounds in the game and had a steal. 

Tea Area shot nearly 44 percent in the first half of the game and nearly 38 percent in the second half. 

The Titans were scheduled to host Madison on Thursday, Jan. 25. They will travel to Sioux Fall O’Gorman on Tuesday, Jan. 30 for a 7 p.m. match-up. 

On Wednesday, Jan. 31 Tea Area will host Canton in a rescheduled match-up. 

On Saturday, Feb. 3 the Titan girls will compete in the Dak XII/ NEC Clash which will be held at Madison High School.
