The Tea Area Titan girls soccer team had a strong start to the season over the weekend, earning victories over Spearfish and Sturgis to begin the season 2-0.
The Titans opened the weekend Friday, Aug. 14, with a 5-3 victory over Spearfish. Tea Area wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Alayna Mann scored just 48 seconds into the game to give the Titans a 1-0 advantage. Katie Hauff added another goal before halftime, putting Tea Area ahead 2-0 at the end of the first half.
The Titans continued to build their lead in the second half. Emilee Budahl converted a penalty kick to make it 3-1, followed by a goal from Ada Klemisch that extended the advantage to 4-1. Mann added her second goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining, giving Tea Area a commanding 5-1 lead.
Spearfish managed to score twice in the second half, but the Titans’ early advantage proved too much to overcome as Tea Area secured the 5-3 victory.
The Titans returned to the field Saturday morning, Aug. 15, facing off against the Sturgis Scoopers. Tea Area again got off to a fast start again, scoring twice midway through the first half. Ada Klemisch and Alayna Mann each found the back of the net to give the Titans a 2-0 advantage.
Neither team was able to score in the second half, allowing Tea Area to preserve the shutout and earn the 2-0 victory.
Tea Area will continue its schedule Thursday, Aug. 20, when the Titans host Brookings at 5 p.m. The team will travel to Harrisburg for a noon matchup Saturday, Aug. 22, before heading to Yankton Tuesday, Aug. 25, for a 7 p.m. contest.
