Titan girls split matches with Pierre, SF Washington

The Tea Area High School girls’ soccer team split a pair of matches last week, falling to Pierre, 3-1, on Monday, Sept. 15, before bouncing back with a 2-0 victory over Sioux Falls Washington on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Against Pierre, the Governors scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Pierre added another goal in the second half to extend its advantage to 3-0.

Tea Area got on the scoreboard with 6:25 remaining in the second half when Sydney Stahlecker found the back of the net, but the Titans were unable to close the gap and fell, 3-1.

The Titans responded with a strong defensive effort against Sioux Falls Washington on Sept. 17, earning a 2-0 shutout victory.

Cate Giles scored the first goal with 27:06 remaining in the opening half to give Tea Area a 1-0 lead.

The Titans added an insurance goal in the second half when Janessa Kuipers found the back of the net, securing the 2-0 victory.

Tea Area will return home Saturday, Sept. 26, to host Huron at 1 p.m. The Titans will then host Mitchell on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. in their final regular-season match.

The first round of the playoffs is scheduled for Oct. 6, followed by the quarterfinals on Oct. 10 and semifinals on Oct. 13. The State Class AA Soccer Championship will be held Oct. 17.
