Titan golfers find success at recent meets



Last Thursday, May 11 the Tea Area High School golf team competed with EPJ and Lennox in a Triangular.

Nine Titan golfers participated, between the Varsity and Junior Varsity. The Lady Titans edged EPJ by three strokes, to win the team title

Leading the Titans was Izzy McNaughton who placed third with a 91. Abby Munson captured fifth place with a personal best 92. Taylor Johanneson shot a personal best of 100. Sophie McNaughton finished with a 101. Taylor Lowe shot a 106 and Lizzy Mehlbrech finished with a 107.

“The girls played great! Many personal bests were achieved,” said Titan head coach Rick Willemssen. “It’s awesome to see the girls enjoying the game and having success!”

On Monday, May 15, the Lady Titans golf team played in the Vermillion Invitational. It was an 11 team event, and the Lady Titans finished in fifth place with a with a season best score of 383. The host school, Vermillion, placed first in the team competition.

The Tournament marked the first time in team history that two Lady Titan golfers medaled in an event.

I. McNaughton and Munson both shot a 90, which placed them in 15th and 14th place respectively. The 90 for Munson marked a personal best score.

Other varsity golfers competing included S. McNaughton who shot a 100, Lowe who shot a 103, Mehlbrech who shot a 107 and Taylor Johanneson who shot a 118.

Tournament medalist was Olivia Sorlie, of Canton, with a score of 80.

“The girls are really putting some good rounds together and gaining confidence every time out,” said Willemssen. “The Bluffs, in Vermillion can be a really tough course to play, but the girls responded very well, and are building momentum with Regions just over a week away.”

The Lady Titans head back to The Bluffs next Monday for the Dak 12 Conference Tournament down in Vermillion.

On Thursday, May 25 the Titan Golfers will compete in Regions at Spring Creek Golf Course.
