Titan golfers off to strong start

With success last week at West Central and Madison, the Tea Area High School golf team looked to continue that success this week, as things got underway on Monday, Aug. 23.

Last week the team got their first meet of the year underway at West Central on Monday, Aug. 16 and then traveled to Madison on Aug. 17 where Keeton Newborg won first place and Eric Munson took second. The Titans also won the team title.

“The golf course played pretty tough. The wind was blowing which made it tough on the small greens at Madison,” said Titan head coach Jason Sudenga. “We finished very strong and for Keeton and Eric to finish first and second was amazing. To win by 15 shots is pretty incredible.”

On Monday the Titans traveled to Dell Rapids to compete on the Rocky Run Golf Course.

Munson captured second place honors at the Meet, shooting a 76 on the day. Munson shot a 40 and a 36, highlighted by an eagle and two birdies.

Newborg finished in fifth place among the over 100 golfers competing. Newborg shot a 78, shooting a 37 and a 41. He hit two birdies on the course.

The Titans’ Derek Anderson finished 12th with an 81 (40, 41). He hit one birdie on the day. Eddie Unruh finished with an 86, shooting a 47 and a 39. He had one birdie. Brady Sabers shot a 93, shooting a 42 and a 51. He hit one birdie on the day. Cole Schilling finished the day with a 128 (58, 70).
