Titan relay teams post fast times at Howard Wood Relays


Several Tea Area High School track and field athletes competed in the 98th annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays held this past weekend, Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6.

The Titans found success in the relay events with the boys’ 4x100 meter relay team of Ethan Vis, Tyler Rhead, Blake Thompson, and Juv Banza taking third in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.38 seconds, the third fastest time in school history.

The boys’ 4x200 meter relay also finished in the top eight at the Howard Wood Relays, claiming eighth place with a time of 1:33.47. Team members included Ethan McKnelly, Vis, Thompson and Banza.

For the Titan girls, the 4x400 meter relay team of Haidyn West, Mya Neuhardt, Brooklyn Reiners, and Shealey Geelan took fifth at Howard Wood, running a time of 4:11.50. This marks the second fastest time in school history.

Although not finishing in the top eight, both the boys and girls’ 4x800 meter relays posted season best times at the Dakota Relays.

For the girls, Grace Bialas, Jaycie Babb, Kiley Pendergast, and Lydia Decker became the third fastest girls’ squad in school history with their time of 10:32.96 and the boys team of Jack Campbell, Holden Jelen, Peyton Sieber, and Alex Kayser are fifth all-time in school history with their time of 8:55.27.

The Titan track and field team was scheduled to compete in the DakXII Conference meet on Thursday, May 11 in Vermillion. The team will be at Canton on Monday, May 15 and will host the Region Meet on Thursday, May 18.
