Titan track and field athletes setting records in early meets



On Saturday, Apr. 13 the Tea Area High School track and field team had a successful showing at the Corn Palace Relays. The team set several personal records and broke school records. 

Sydney Stachlecker broke a school record in the 400 meter dash, clocking a time of 59.53 to take second place at Mitchell. She is ranked third overall in Class A this season in the event.

Stahlecker was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that claimed first place. Team members included Jayna VanLaecken, Brooklyn Reiners, and Haidyn West along with Stahlecker. They took first with a time of 4:12.50. 

The 4x100 meter relay team of Heidi Hofer, Piper McKinney, Kendra Nelson, and Miah Weber took first at Mitchell with a time of 54.94. The medley relay team of Hofer, Lainey Haines, Weber, and Abby Hilleson captured third with a time of 4:34.34.

Jaycie Babb took fourth in the 1600 meter run with her time of 5:27.43, breaking her school record. She also took fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:28.74. Grace Bialas took fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:29.28. 

Other strong performances for the Titan girls included a second place performance in the 200 meter dash by Mya Neuhardt who clocked a time of 26.52 in the event. Mara Grant finished second in the shot put with a throw of 34’9”. 

Emily Froendt took third in the discus with a throw of 102’3” and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 91’2”. 

McKenzie Thompson took third in the triple jump (29’6”) and fifth in the long jump (14’4.25”). Aubrey Kenyon took sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 25’10.75”.  

For the boys, Brenner Konrad took first in the discus with throw of 129’9”, second in the shot put with a throw of 45’7” and third in the javelin with a throw of 131’.  

Kayden Williamson captured second in the long jump, jumping a distance of 18’7.25” and Kayl Broderson finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 36’2.5”. 

Earning sixth in the 110 meter hurdles was Dawood Toto (18.00) and sixth in the long jump (17’6.25”). 

Holden Jelen also captured sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.86 and Cameron Wiens took sixth in the pole vault, clearing 11’6”. Carter Brown captured sixth in the shot put throwing a distance of 41’8”. 

Relays performing strong for the boys were the 4x400 meter relay team of Jacob Mueller, Peyton Sieber, Jelen, and Chase DeBoer who captured first place honors at the Corn Palace Relays with a time of 3:41.17. 

The 4x200 meter relay team of Carter Christensen, Jeremy Wiens, Williamson, and DeBoer took first with a time of 1:36.02. The 4x100 meter relay team of Landen Bolte, Bill Kerkula, Toto, and Broderson took third with a time of 50.66. 

The boys’ medley relay of Kerkula, Bolte, Lane Sieber, and Tate VanLaecken took fourth, clocking a time of 4:15.30. 

Prior to the Canton Relays, the Titans competed in the Lennox Invite on Apr. 11 and hosted the Tea Area Invite on Apr. 9. 

At the Lennox Invite, several Titan athletes placed in the top three. 

Bialas captured first place honors in the 1600 meter run (5:51.86). Haines captured first in the 400 meter dash (1:05.10) and Reese Hammerquist captured first in the triple jump (32’4.5”) and third in the high jump (4’10”). Giles took third in the triple jump (31’5”). 

VanLaecken took second in the 300 meter hurdles (52.02) and Haley Korver captured second in the 3200 meter run (14:25.23). Gracie Kramer took third in the event (15.22.77). 

Top three boy finishers included Broderson who claimed third in the triple jump (37’10”). 

The 4x200 meter relay team of Christensen, Williamson, Ethan Vis, and Tyler Rhead took first with a time of 1:35.69. The same group combined in the 4x100 to take third with a time of 46.42. 

The boys’ sprint medley relay team of Vis, Rhead, DeBoer, and Jelen finished with a time of 3:57.39 to take second. 

At the Tea Invite the Titans also saw success with Rhead taking top honors in the 100 meter dash, Matthew Rogers claiming first in the 110 meter hurdles, Stahlecker taking first in the 200 meter dash, and the girls’ 4x800 meter relay team of Bialas, VanLaecken, Hilleson, and Babb also capturing first.

Taking second were Neuhardt in the 100 meter dash, West in the 400 meter dash, Babb in the 800 meter run, Jelen in the 800 meter run and the girls’ 4x400 meter relay team of Stachlecker, VanLaecken, West, and Reiners who set a new school record with a time of 4:08.84 in the event.
