Titans battle during busy week

On Friday, Apr. 25 the Tea Area High School baseball team took on the Stevens Raiders. The Titans fell, 8-1.

Tea Area fell behind early and couldn’t get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh inning. Zach Pies, Tyson Gilbert, and Landyn Johnson each collected a hit for Tea Area. 

On the mound for the Titans was Ben Vasecka who took the loss. He went four innings, surrendering four runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three. 

On Saturday, Apr. 26 the Titans faced off again against the Stevens Raiders and lost, 9-6. 

Tea Area took a 1-0 lead after two innings of play, but Stevens answered back with a run in the top of the third. The Titans managed three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead after Johnson singled to center field, Landen Madsen singled down the left field line, and Ethan Knettel walked, each scoring a run. However, Stevens scored six runs in the top of the seventh to get the win. 

Recording hits for the Titans were Johnson with two and Lingren, Knettel, and Madsen with one each. 

Cole McKinney took the loss for Tea Area. The reliever went one inning, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking none. Knettel started the game for Tea Area. He allowed four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking two. 

That same day, the Titans took on the Aberdeen Central Eagles and lost, 12-5.

Aberdeen Central took the early 4-3 lead after one inning of play. The Titans continued to battle but were unable to get the win.

Tyson Gilbert went three of four at the plate for Tea Area. Also recording a hit was Ben Vasecka, Avery Hangman, Pies, and Johnson. 

Pies pitched three innings in relief for Tea Area, allowing one hit, striking out three and walking four. Prussman took the loss. He went one one-third inning, giving up seven runs on two hits, striking out one and walking eight. 

On Sunday, Apr. 27 the Titans earned a 6-4 win in against Aberdeen. 

McKinney struck out ten batters as the starting pitcher in the win. He allowed five hits and four runs over seven innings. 

Hangman, Prussman, and Lingren combined for five of the team’s ten hits.

The Titans took the lead in the bottom of the third as Jonathan Schlunsen singled, scoring one run to give Tea Area a 3-2 lead. 

Aberdeen battled back and took the lead in the top of the fifth; however in the bottom the Titans reclaimed the lead as Nate Hall singled, Hangman singled, and Prussman doubled to each bring a run across home plate. 

The team was scheduled to compete at Sturgis on Friday, May 2 and will face off against Stevens and Douglas on Saturday, May 3.
