Titans boys and girls soccer teams ready to kick off 2026 season with West River road trip- Tea Area High School boys’ soccer

The Tea Area High School boys soccer team is ready to get the 2026 season underway, and the Titans will waste little time getting tested as they open the season with a two-day road trip out West. 

Tea Area will begin the season Friday, Aug. 14, against the Spearfish Spartans before traveling to Sturgis for a Saturday morning match-up with the Sturgis Brown Scoopers.

The season opener against Spearfish is scheduled for 4 p.m. Mountain Time Friday, Aug. 14 at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex in Spearfish. The junior varsity team will follow at 6 p.m. MT.

The Titans will then make the short trip to Sturgis for a pair of games Saturday, Aug. 15. The varsity match-up against Sturgis Brown is scheduled for 9 a.m. MT at the City Soccer Complex’s Woodle Field, with the JV team taking the field at 11 a.m. MT.

The two-day trip will give Tea Area four matches in its opening weekend and provide the Titans with an early opportunity to establish their identity for the new season.

Tea Area will be led by head coach Zach Jurgens, with Ryan Gallagher, Tyler Duffy and Barry Owen serving as assistant coaches.

Duffy comes in as  the new  JV head coach and assistant varsity coach.

Duffy is a familiar face to the Titans program. A former Tea Area player, Duffy spent six years playing for the Titans and was part of three state championship teams and one state runner-up team. He earned First Team All-State honors as a senior before continuing his playing career at Morningside University.

The Titans varsity roster includes a mix of returning upperclassmen and younger players who will look to make an impact throughout the season.

Tea Area’s senior class also includes Santiago Revolorio, a defender/midfielder; Dawood Toto, a midfielder/forward; Hudson Hadrick, a midfielder; Daylen McKnelly, a forward/midfielder; Conner Case, a defender; and Bill Kerkula, a defender.

The varsity roster also includes juniors Kade Eimers, Nathan Hall, John McGuckin and Brayden Carroll.

Sophomores include Carter Olinger and Sawyer Helle, while the Titans also have a group of freshmen ready to step into varsity competition, including Cooper Schickedanz, Reed Cerny, Kyle Venhuizen and Elijah Edblom. Eighth-grader Finley Husby rounds out the varsity roster.

The JV roster features a combination of younger players and several athletes who will also see time with the varsity squad. That group includes Wakiya Iron Shell, Cael Hermanson, Jack Rentschler, Simon Jelen, Benjamin Real, Cooper Schickedanz, Tristan Waltner, Carter Olinger, Daniel Tobar, Crew Pedersen, Jacob Klemisch, John McGuckin, Kyle Venhuizen, Sawyer Helle, Elijah Edblom, Jarred Roeber and William Beynon.

Following the opening weekend in Spearfish and Sturgis, Tea Area will return home for its first home match Thursday, Aug. 20, against Brookings. The varsity match is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Tea Area High School Field. 

The Titans will then travel to Harrisburg on Aug. 22 before heading to Yankton on Aug. 25.

September brings a challenging stretch of competition, including home matches against Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Sept. 1, Brandon Valley on Sept. 10, Pierre T.F. Riggs on Sept. 15, Sioux Falls Jefferson on Sept. 22, Huron on Sept. 26 and Mitchell on Sept. 29, along with road contests against Aberdeen Central on Sept. 5, Watertown on Sept. 8 and Sioux Falls Washington on Sept. 17. 

The regular-season schedule currently runs through Sept. 29, when Tea Area hosts Mitchell at 6 p.m. in the final regular season game. 

Playoff action begins on Oct. 6 with quarterfinals slated for Oct. 10, semi-finals for Oct. 13 and the State AA Championship for Oct. 17 in Watertown.
