Titans boys’ soccer kick off season this Saturday

The Tea Area High School boys’ soccer team is looking to build on last year’s experiences and make a deep playoff push in 2025 under head coach Zach Jurgens.

“We finished the season with a 6-8 record, losing in the first round of playoffs,” Jurgens said. “We had an up-and-down season with a young team and injuries all season.”

Jurgens, who grew up playing club soccer in Sioux Falls and competed at the University of Sioux Falls, enters his 11th year coaching in Tea. His assistant coaches this season are Ryan Gallagher and Sergio Banuelos.

The Titans bring back a wealth of experience. 

“We will have a solid team this year with only losing one starter from last year’s team and getting a couple starters back from injury,” Jurgens said. “We are all excited to see what this season brings—this team has a lot of potential.”

Key match-ups in the region include Aberdeen Central, all the Sioux Falls schools, and Watertown.

Looking ahead, Jurgens said the team’s sights are set high. 

“We look to have a strong season and make a push deep into the playoffs,” he said. “We have a good group of players to do so this year.”
