Titans defeat Spearfish in season opener

The Tea Area Titans opened their 2025 football season with a hard-fought 22-14 victory over Spearfish on Friday, Aug. 29, in Tea.
Tea Area wasted no time scoring on the opening play as quarterback Mitch Grant took the quarterback keeper 60 yards for the score. The point after by Cameron Hillestad put Tea Area up 7-0 with only seconds off the clock.
The Titans scored again in the second quarter as Brenner Konrad took the handoff and ran it in from 22 yards outs. Carter Brown ran in the two point conversion to put Tea Area up 15-0.
Still in the second, Tea Area’s Grant found Caden Bohnenberger from ten yards out for the touchdown with just 17 seconds left in the first half. Hillestad kicked through the extra point and took the 22-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Spearfish showed signs of life scoring once in the third and again in the fourth, but the Titans held on for the win.
Tea Area finished the night with 276 yards rushing and 86 passing.
Leading the rushing charge was Grant who rushed ten times for 104 yards, including the early touchdown. Brown rushed 13 times for 64 yards and Konrad gained 53 yards on seven carries. Kade Korleski carried the ball 11 times for 51 yards.
In the air, Grant completed six of 12 pass attempts for 86 yards. He had two interceptions in the game.
Brown caught two balls for 32 yards, Hillestad one for 36, Korleski two for eight and Bohnenberger one for ten.
Defensively, Grifin Wiebenga had an interception in the game. He also broke up a pass and had a tackle. Brown and Hayden Bialas each had a forced fumble. Chase DeBoer and Bialas each had a sack and combined for another sack in the game.
Leading the team in tackles was Korleski with eight. Brown had six, Leyton Moran, Emmett DeGeest and DeBoer had five each and Bialas and Konrad finished with four each.
The Titans will travel to Gene Brownell Complex in Aberdeen to take on Aberdeen Central this Friday, Sept. 5 in a 7 p.m. match-up.
They will be at home again on Friday, Sept. 12 taking on Huron in their Homecoming match-up at 6 p.m.
