Titans fall to Brandon, West Central

On Thursday, May 2 the Tea Area High School softball team traveled to Brandon to take on the Brandon Valley Lynx. 

The Titans led by four runs heading into the bottom of the fourth inning where Brandon Valley exploded for seven runs. The Titans attempted to fight back scoring one run in the top of the sixth and one more in the top of the seventh only to lose 8-7. 

In the opening inning, Addisyn Hansen doubled to score one run for the Titans who jumped on the board early. They added to more runs in the third and two more in the fourth. 

Brandon Valley’s big inning was aided by a grand slam that drove in four runs. 

Hansen took the loss for the Titans on the mound. She went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits. She recorded two strike-outs and walked three. Emily Froendt pitched two and one-third innings, allowing one hit and recording one strike-out. 

Sydney Ganschow went three of four at the plate to lead the Titans. Kalli Boom had two hits for the Titans and Hansen, and Skyler Haines each had one. 

On Friday, May 3 the Titans traveled to West Central and suffered a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Trojans. West Central led early, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. The Titans answered back in the top of the fourth with an Emerson Erck homerun but West Central went on to score one run in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. They then scored three more in the bottom of the fifth to take the win. 

Froendt took the loss for Tea Area on the mound. She went six innings, allowing five runs on ten hits. She recorded two strike-outs and allowed one walk. 

Recording hits for Tea Area were K. Boom, Ganschow, Erck, Haines, and Abby Boom. 

The Titans are scheduled to host Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday, May 14 at 4 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. match-up against Vermillion.
