Titans fall to Mitchell, Brandon, Jefferson

On Thursday, Apr. 17 the Tea Area High School baseball team took on Mitchell and came up short, falling 4-1. 

Mitchell took an early 1-0 lead after two innings of play and jumped to 2-0 after the fourth inning. Tea Area was able to get on the board in the top of the fifth but with no more runs coming across the plate and Mitchell scoring one in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth, the Titans suffered the 4-1 loss. 

Cole McKinney took the loss for the Titans. The pitcher went six innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking none. 

Landyn Johnson led the Titans with two hits in three at-bats. Jonothan Schlunsen paced Tea Area with two walks. Ben Vasecka, Ethan Knettel and Avery Hangman each had a hit in the game. 

On Monday, Apr. 21 the Titans took on Brandon Valley. Brandon Valley scored six runs in the top of the second, one  in the top of third and eight more in the top of the fourth to take a big 15-0 lead. The Titans managed just one run in the bottom of the fourth, ending the game after five innings of play, with Brandon winning, 15-1. 

Zach Pies had the Titans’ lone hit in the game. 

Bryson Prussman took the loss for the Titans on the mound. The starter went three innings, allowing seven runs on four hits, striking out three and walking four. Dashle Lowery and Jake Lingren also saw action on the mound. Lowery recorded one strike-out and Lingren two. 

On Tuesday, Apr. 22 the Titans took on Sioux Falls Jefferson and lost in a tight one, 4-3. 

Jefferson got an early 3-1 lead after the first inning. The Titans tied things up in the top of the sixth but Jefferson answered with a run taking the eventual win. 

Knettel earned two hits for the Titans in three at bats to lead the Titans’ offense. Also recording a hit were Vasecka, McKinney, Tyson Gilbert, and Hangman. 

McKinney took the loss for the Titans. The starting pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking none. Pies came in in relief. 

The Titans are scheduled to host the Stevens Raiders on Friday, Apr. 25 at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m. They will take on Aberdeen Central also on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
