Titans fall to WatertownTravel to Yankton this Friday

On Friday, Oct. 10 the Tea Area High School football team hosted Watertown and after leading 7-3 early, Tea Area was unable to hang on in the second half as Watertown scored once in the third and once in the fourth to get the 15-7 win over the Titans.
Tea Area scored in the opening quarter on a Mitch Grant pass to Grifin Wiebenga for 23 yards. The kick after by Cameron Hillestad gave Tea Area the 7-3 lead.
Watertown then scored back to back field goals in the second, and a field goal in the third and fourth to get the win.
Tea Area finished the night with 128 yards of offense, gaining 84 on the ground and 44 in the air. Grant completed five of 15 pass attempts for 44 yards. He had two interceptions and was sacked three times.
Wiebenga caught the team’s lone touchdown pass and finished with 32 yards receiving. Carter Brown, Daschle Lowery, and Kade Korleski each a catch in the game.
On the ground, Brown led the rushing attack with 30 yards on six carries. Brenner Konrad had 27 yards on eight carries. Grant had 15 and Korleski 12.
Defensively, the Titans never allowed Watertown into the end zone. Brown recorded a sack in the game and Kingston Nyberg and Cody Petersen combined for a sack.
Nyberg, Grant, and Lucas Randall were all credited with breaking up a pass.
Leading the team in tackles was Emmett DeGeest who finished with eight on the night. Brown and Chase DeBoer had seven, Konrad and Nyberg five each, and Hayden Bialas, Braeden Gniffke, and Korleski each had three.
The Titans, who now sit at 5-2 on the season, will look to bounce back in their Friday night match-up this week against a strong 5-2 Yankton Bucks on Oct. 17 at Crane-Youngworth Field in Yankton.
The Bucks have recorded wins over Huron (41-24), Watertown (52-26), Douglas (63-6), Pierre (35-28) and Brookings (14-7). Their two losses are to Harrisburg (49-3) and Sturgis Brown (21-27). Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
