Titans fall to Yankton, take on Washington in final regular season game

On Friday, Oct. 17, the Tea Area High School football team traveled to Yankton to take on the 6-2 Bucks.

Yankton scored twice in the opening quarter — a 36-yard field goal and a 72-yard touchdown. The Bucks added another score in the second quarter after a Titan fumble was recovered for a Yankton touchdown, giving the Bucks a 17-0 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Yankton extended their lead with a two-yard touchdown run to make it 23-0. However, the Titans got on the board when Hayden Bialas broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run. Cameron Hillestad’s extra point was good, narrowing the gap to 23-7.

Yankton added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal a 30-7 victory over Tea Area.

The Titans finished with 314 yards of total offense — 231 rushing and 83 passing. Yankton totaled 353 yards, including 290 through the air and 63 on the ground. Tea Area had three fumbles in the game, losing two of them.

Quarterback Daschle Lowery completed seven of 27 passes for 83 yards and threw four interceptions. Kade Korleski had three receptions for 52 yards, Hillestad caught two passes for 23 yards, and both Caden Bohneberger and Lucas Randall added one reception each.

On the ground, Bialas led the rushing attack with 142 yards on 15 carries. Korleski added 55 yards on 15 carries, Carter Brown rushed for 19 yards on eight carries, and Lowery ran five times for 15 yards.

Defensively, Randall and Griffin Wiebenga each recorded an interception. Korleski and Kingston Nyberg combined for a sack, while Leyton Moran and Hillestad each broke up a pass. Brown led the defense with 13 tackles, Moran followed with eight, Emmett DeGeest tallied five, and Korleski added four. Randall, Chase DeBoer, and Nyberg each contributed three tackles.

The Titans were scheduled to face Sioux Falls Washington on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. at Howard Wood Field in their final regular season game. The Warriors entered with a 4-4 record, with losses to Brandon Valley (7-28), Harrisburg (0-21), Sioux Falls Jefferson (14-41), and Sioux Falls Lincoln (31-33). Their wins came against Rapid City Stevens (46-12), Rapid City Central (23-14), Sioux Falls O’Gorman (20-17), and Sioux Falls Roosevelt (28-7).

Playoffs begin Oct. 30.
