Titans find success at early track and field meets

On Tuesday, Apr. 8 the Tea Area High School track and field team competed in the Harrisburg Quad, competing against host Harrisburg, Sioux Falls Jefferson, and Sioux Falls Lincoln. 

Claiming a top honors at the meet was the Titans’ Sienna Brech who won the discus throw with a personal best throw of 110’3”. 

Other top five performances included Alayna Mann in the 100 meter dash. Mann clocked a 13.28 to take fourth in the event. Mann also claimed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.04. Mann also placed eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.30 seconds. 

Gracie Kramer took fifth in the girls’ 3200 meter run with a time of 15:13.83. 

The boys’ 4x200 meter relay of Beckett Martens, Quentin Maag, Brayden Gniffke, and Landen Bolte took fourth with a time of 1:39.57 in the event. 

On Thursday, Apr. 10 the Titans competed in the Vermillion Booster Club Invite. 

Earning top honors was the girls’ 4x400 meter relay team of Jayna VanLaecken, Brooklyn Reiners, Mya Neuhardt, and Sydney Stahlecker. They clocked a time of 4:05.03 to win the event. 

The boys’ 4x100 meter relay team of Carter Christensen, Kayden Williamson, Tyler Rhead, and Juv Banza took top honors in their event with a season best time of 44.63 seconds. The boys’ 4x200 meter relay team of Christensen, Chase Deboer, Rhead and Banza also claimed top honors, running a season’s best 1:34.13. 

The girls’ 4x800 meter relay team of Grace Bialas, Abby Hilleson, VanLaecken, and Jaycie Babb took second place with their time of 10:04.03. 

Other top five performances included, a second place finish by Banza in the boys’ 200 meter run. Banza sent a personal record with his time of 23.07 seconds. Christensen placed fifth in the event with a time of 23.20. 

Rhead claimed fourth place in the boys’ 100 meter dash with a time of 11.47 seconds. In the boys’ 110 meter hurdles, Matthew Rogers took third place with a time of 15.71 seconds. 

For the girls, Reiners took second place honors in the girls’ 400 meter dash with a personal record of 1:03.26. Stahlecker took third place honors in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 25.92 seconds, this also set a new school record in the event.  

Another third place finish was claimed by VanLaecken when she took third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.37 seconds, also a new personal best. Babb claimed fourth place honors in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.64. 

In the girls’ discus throw, Brech took third place honors with a throw of 106’4”. Daphne Decker claimed second place in the javelin throw, with a new personal best throw of 97’1”. Kiley Pendergast placed fifth in the event with a throw of 90’10”. 

Decker also placed in the top five in the girls’ pole vault, claiming fifth after clearing 8’. 

Cameron Wiens took fourth in the boys’ pole vault, clearing 11’. Carson Hall took fifth with a jump of 10’6”. 

In the girls’ triple jump, Reese Hammerquist took fourth place honors, jumping 33’2’.

The team  will compete in the Corn Palace Relays on Thursday, Apr. 17. On Apr. 22 they will compete in the Sioux Falls Jefferson Quad and will host another Meet on Thursday, Apr. 24.
