Titans find success at Howard Wood



This past weekend several Tea Area track and field athletes competed at Howard Wood in the Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls.

The boys’ 4x200 meter relay team of Sam Schmitt, Austin Lake, Tyler Duffy, and Braden Beach had a solid performance in the 4x200 meter relay, earning runner up honors with a time of 1:32.82. This time shaved five seconds off their personal best time and marked the third best time in school history. Winning the event was a team from Sioux Falls Christian who finished with a time of 1:30.83 in the event.

Beach also found success individually, capturing sixth place in the long jump with a jump of 21’2”. Winning the event was Brady Fritz of Winner who jumped a distance of 23’.

The girls’ 4x800 meter relay team and the Sprint Medley relay team both earned ninth place honors. The 4x800 meter relay team consisted of Haidyn West, Haley Korver, Aubrey Kenyon, and Jaycie Babb. The team clocked a time of 10:42.55 in the event. The team from Mt. Vernon/Plankinton won the event with a time of 9:54.10. The Titans’ Sprint Medley team consisted of Olivia Ritter, Samantha VanTol, Carson Quigley, and Babb. The team clocked a time of 4:27.67, just three seconds off the school record. Winning the event was the team from Lennox who clocked a time of 4:19.20 in the event.

The Titan boys’ Sprint Medley relay finished 11th with a time of 3:51.65. Team members included Duffy Beach, Nathan Babb, and Eric Munson. Winning the event was the team from Milbank with a time of 3:36.67.

The girls’ 4x100 meter relay team of Ritter, Maddie Baatz, Kennedi Johannsen, and VanTol, took 14th with a time of 53.19. Winning the event was the team from Parker with a time of 51.05.

Individually, Katie Vasecka and Ethan McKnelly both took 14th place in the high jump. Vasecka cleared 5’ in the event and McKnelly 5’10”.

Luke Rettedal took 18th in the shot put with a throw of 45’5.75. Caden Ellingson finished 20th in the event with a throw of 42’9”.

Baatz and Stella Peterson both competed in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles, but did not finish in the top 20. Johannsen and VanTol also competed in the 100 meter dash at Howard Wood.
