The Tea Area High School Track and Field team wrapped up a memorable 2025 season with a strong showing at the SDHSAA State AA Track and Field Meet, held May 29–31 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls. The Titans brought home medals, school records, and personal bests in a competitive field.

Leading the way for the boys was Matthew Rogers, who made history by becoming the first Titan since 2013 to medal in three individual events at one State meet. Rogers took 7th in the Triple Jump (43-04.75), 7th in the 110m Hurdles (15.43) after a 15.17 in prelims, and placed 7th in the Long Jump (21-04.25). He ends his career ranked #1 in school history in the Triple Jump, #2 in the 110m Hurdles, and #5 in the Long Jump.

On the girls’ side, Jaycie Babb stood out by breaking two school records. She placed 8th in the 800m (2:19.04) and 7th in the 1600m (5:09.04) — both times are new school records.

The 4x400m relay team of Jayna VanLaecken, Brooklyn Reiners, Grace Bialas, and Sydney Stahlecker had a standout performance, placing second in a school-record time of 3:54.64.

Sydney Stahlecker had a breakout meet, finishing fifth in the 400m (58.12) after breaking her school record with a 57.36 in the prelims. She also placed tenth in the 200m (26.04). She was a member of the Sprint Medley along with Mya Neuhardt, VanLaecken and Babb that earned a second-place finish in a time of 4:08.02, setting another school record.

The 4x800m relay team of Bialas, Abby Hilleson, VanLaecken, and Babb took fourth in the event at State with a time of 9:34.36. This group currently holds the school record which they broke earlier this season.

In the field events, Sienna Brech threw 117-09 in the Discus, taking third place and setting a new school record, making her the top Titan field competitor since Mikayla Wevik in 2018.

Daphne Decker broke the school record in the Javelin with a 15th-place throw of 109-04, surpassing the previous record held by her sister Lydia.

In the boys’ relays, the teams posted some fast times. The 4x800m team of Jacob Mueller, Noah Korver, Tate VanLaecken, and Jack Campbell ran a season-best 8:27.75, the second-fastest time in school history.

The Sprint Medley (Tyler Rhead, Beckett Martens, Mueller, Campbell) also ran a season best and posted the third-fastest time in school history (3:41.75).

The 4x100m relay (Carter Christensen, Kayden Williamson, Juv Banza, Rhead) ran a 43.62 in the prelims.

Although this did not advance them to the finals, this time did beat their previous school record time they set earlier this season.

The 4x200m squad (Christensen, Martens, Rhead, Banza) clocked 1:30.93, good for the third-fastest time in school history, while the 4x400m team (Dawood Toto, Campbell, Chase Deboer, Mueller) ran 3:34.38, that time now ranks them #7 in school history.
