Titans return to State Championship



This Saturday, Nov. 14 the Tea Area High School football team will make their third appearance in the Class A State Championship game after defeating Madison, 37-14 in semi-final action last Friday, Nov. 6.

This was the fifth time the Titans have appeared in the semi-final playoff game and it marked the first time the team has beaten Madison in playoff action.

Tea Area scored 17 points in the opening quarter of the semi-final match-up as Chase Van Tol kicked a 42 yard field goal; Kaden Johnson scored on a ten yard run and once again on a five yard run. Points after by Van Tol, gave the Titans a 17-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

Madison wasn’t about to give up as they scored twice in the second quarter to pull within three points, 17-14.

Before halftime, the Titans managed another score as Johnson took in his third touchdown of the night, running it in from ten yards out. Van Tol’s point after gave Tea Area the 24-14 lead.

In the second half, neither team found the end zone in the third quarter, however the Titans put two more scores on the board in the fourth to seal their 37-14 victory and secure their trip to the State Championship game.

Scoring in the fourth quarter was Conner Mulder who took it in from five yards out. Garrett Kolbeck also recorded a touchdown, running it in from five yards out.

Offensively, the Titans finished the night with 410 yards of offense, rushing for 358 and passing for 52. Madison finished with 104 yards of offense, gaining 102 in the air and only two on the ground.
