Titans split doubleheader with Bobcats

A 6-run seventh inning ignited the Tea Area Varsity baseball team to an 8-2 victory over the Brookings Bobcats in game #2 of Sunday’s doubleheader at Bob Sheldon Field in Brookings.

The 6-run outburst was highlighted by four consecutive Titan base hits, by Tim Halbur, Gavin Johnson, Mason Schramm (double), and Ethan Vis (double). Dylan Larsen and Teagan Dedula (double), also added hits in the inning. Dedula lead the Titans with three RBI’s. Sam Werdel also added a hit and was walked three times.

The game was a pitcher’s dual through six innings. Boston Willemssen started on the hill for the Titans, pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing; one run on four hits, while striking out five Bobcats.  “Closer”, Nate Christensen, relieved Willemssen in the fifth inning, and pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, and struck out one.

Game #1 found the Titan bats very quiet and in search of the “Big Hit”. The Titans were shut out by the Bobcats 10-0.  The lone Titans’ hit was a bunt single by Vis.  Tea Area left six runners on base in the first three innings. The Titans are now 10-10 on the season.
