Titans split games with Washington, earn big win over Canton
On Monday, May 15 the Tea Area High School baseball team faced off against Sioux Falls Washington in double header action, splitting the games. The Titans lost the first match-up 4-2 but grabbed the second 10-6.
In the win against Washington, the Titans knotted the game up at five in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Clayton Schwebach hit into a fielder’s choice, but brought one run across home plate.
The Titans tallied three runs in the sixth inning. Contributing to the big inning included Boston Willemssen, Carter Turek, and Teagan Dedula, all knocking in runs.
Nathan Babb was the winning pitcher for Tea Area. Babb surrendered six runs on five hits over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Nate Christensen threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
The Titans collected ten hits. Logan Boom and Dedula all had multiple hits. Boom led the Titans with three hits in five at bats.
On Friday, May 12 Babb was an RBI machine, driving in six on three hits to lead Tea Area past Canton 17-1. Babb drove in runs on a sacrifice fly in the first, a single in the second, a triple in the second, and a double in the fourth.
The Titans secured the large victory thanks to ten runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Babb, Schwebach, Carter Turek, and Mason Schramm, a triple by Babb, and an error on a ball put in play by Ethan Vis.
Vis earned the victory on the mound. He lasted three innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out six. Dawson Barthel threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Playoff action is set to begin for the Titans on Tuesday, May 23.
