Woodring wins title at Mid Dakota Monster

Tyler Woodring captured a championship to lead the Tea Area High School boys wrestling team at the 2026 Mid Dakota Monster, held recently in Presho. Woodring went undefeated on the day to claim first place at 138 pounds.

Woodring received a first-round bye before pinning Caden Singrey of Kingsbury County in 2:49. He followed with falls over Luke Olson of Mobridge-Pollock in 0:56 and Witt Myers of Stanley County in just 0:13 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Woodring defeated Mason Hagen of Sturgis by decision, 7-4, to secure the title.

Jeremiah Wilgers also turned in a strong performance for Tea Area, finishing second at 175 pounds. Wilgers opened with a bye and then earned a fall over Deonte Evans of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes in 5:30. He advanced with a major decision over Trace Genzler of Gettysburg, 8-0, and a decision win over Kenyon Kuiper of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes, 11-8, in the semifinals. Wilgers fell by pin to Gavin Werlinger of Sturgis in the finals, placing second and scoring 23 team points.

Two Tea Area wrestlers earned third-place finishes. Aaron Halbur placed third at 120 pounds, scoring 18 team points. After a bye, Halbur earned a major decision over Channing Bartlett of McCook Central/Montrose, 8-0, before dropping a quarterfinal match. He battled back through the consolation rounds with wins over Relic Bailey of Custer, Ruger Smokov of Bennett County, and Chase Henriksen of Kingsbury County, before defeating Jyles Auble of Pierre T.F. Riggs by decision, 6-0, in the third-place match.

At 132 pounds, Slater Wilson also finished third, scoring 22 team points. Wilson opened with back-to-back technical fall victories and added a major decision win in the quarterfinals. After a loss in the semifinals, he rebounded with a fall over John Ryder Weiss of Hot Springs and a 4-2 decision over Evan Folk of Sisseton in the third-place match.

Other Tea Area boys results included Trevin Audiss placing eighth at 150 pounds, Ashton Smit finishing eighth at 190 pounds, and Jaeden Waltner taking seventh at 215 pounds. Additional competitors for the Titans included Drake Mitchell and Braylon Hoyer at 106, Anders Munoz and Kade Eimers at 113, Kyler Audiss at 120, Brody Lee at 126, Jackson Herbek at 132, Mason Woodring at 144, Greyson Schmidt at 157, Adam Giles and Michael Bastemeyer at 165, and Thiik Lual at 215.

On the girls side, Emery Voelker led Tea Area with a fifth-place finish at 125 pounds. Voelker opened with a fall over Lilly Richards of Mahpiya Luta in 0:40 and later earned consolation wins by fall over Layne Heasley of Pierre T.F. Riggs and Lily Glodt of Sturgis. She closed her tournament with a fall over Kadlin Humbracht of Hot Springs in 2:15 to secure fifth place. Aliyah Steveson competed at 100 pounds, while Lexi Duffy wrestled at 170.
